Notes:
The ELTMC is a registered charity to support and give information to parents and families expecting or parenting twins or more in the Edinburgh and Lothians area. Our website is www.edinburghtwins.co.uk and we are affiliated to TAMBA (Twins and Multiple Births Association) which is the UK charity set up by parents of twins, triplets and higher multiples and interested professionals whose campaigns, research and support services directly help thousands of parents and professionals meet the unique challenges that multiple birth families face.
The Edinburgh and Lothians Twins and Multiples Club primary focus is to support the needs of parents/carers of multiples. In doing this we improve the health and wellbeing of the parents/carers and thereby giving our multiples the best start to life. The ELTMC needs to fundraise to continue to support the great work we have underway by providing: - a supportive and non-judgemental environment where parents/carers can get the support of their peers and experienced parents/carers - an antenatal class to prepare expectant parents for the birth and parenting of multiples - breastfeeding support via our antenatal class and subsequent breastfeeding help - active virtual communities, online support and information through our website messageboards, Facebook and Twitter - regular newsletters and email updates on what’s happening in the local community - local bumps, babies and toddler groups across the Lothians providing activities and play opportunities for children of multiple birth families - social events and activities for multiple birth families - opportunities to meet others in similar situations - nearly new sales to help parents/carers with the cost of raising multiples by selling second-hand multiple specific equipment - negotiating discounts for club members helping them financially with the costs of raising multiples - canvassing in the local community for issues related to multiple birth families - working together with our local NHS partners - to work in conjunction with the Twins and Multiple Births Association (TAMBA) in support of research and campaigning to improve the lives of local multiple birth families
Our main fundraising event of the year is our Summer Fair. We are focussing on using our raffle to help us raise funds to ensure we can continue to undertake all this activity and more. In 2012, we are raising funds to develop the following: - Re-vamp our website to ensure that it provides a much more supportive and informative resource for all our members and the larger community - Would like to grow the support we offer to parents/carers of multiples of all ages (not just antenatal) via support nights - Improve our breastfeeding support by training a number of twin and triplet breastfeeding counsellors - Identify vulnerable families who may need additional support and work with local services and charities such as Homestart to provide that support - Establish a multiples swimming class in partnership with Edinburgh Council and local schools

Antenatal class - JULY 2012
The next class is to run on Tuesday nights in July - the 17th, 24th and 31st from 7.30 pm until around 9.30pm. The class will be held at Fairmilehead Parish Church hall in Edinburgh. This venue has been chosen as it is quite central given our large catchment - being Edinburgh and the Lothians. This course is being held at the rate of £30.00 which covers attendance at all three nights.
The course is not designed to take the place of other mainstream antenatal provision from either the NHS or NCT. We are hoping to provide a twins perspective - 'how do I feed twins?', 'how do I carry twins?', 'what kind of routine should I have?', 'Can I get on a bus with twin buggies?' and so on - and so we are aiming to provide discussion, experience and advice for these and the gazillion other questions which start occurring to you as soon as you find out you have twins! The course will specifically cover the following topics:
- Pregnancy & Birth (led by a midwife) - Special Care Baby Unit and Neonatal care (led by a midwife) - Equipment - Feeding - Help & Support - Practical Baby Care - including routines & sleep
The other main aim of the course is to put you in touch with others in the same boat, and at the same stage with a view to providing the opportunity for you to form a network of twin parents from whom you can get support on an ongoing basis.
Feedback from the first two courses.......
“I'm so glad I came. I'm not sure I'd have coped so well without it. I am now ready to have some twins!!”
“I have found out things that we never thought about. Logistics of twin parenting really helped our thought process. Discussions with other expecting parents was good”
“Lots of good tips given”
“Yes - without a shadow of a doubt in the last 3 weeks I have planned and prepared more than I did in the first 5 months of being pregnant”
"Definitely boosted my confidence regarding coping with twins. Having had a child already I still felt nervous about having twins but this has boosted my confidence and a great way to meet other twins mums"
To book a place, please email me at antenatal@edinburghtwins.co.uk or else PM me through this messageboard.
Thanks, Tricia
